Ellie Cullen is an Irish artist based in North Tipperary, Ireland.

Through the exploration of a variety of artistic disciplines such as painting and printed and embroidered textile design, her practice continuously blurs the boundaries between fine art and design. It focuses on the tactile and haptic qualities of materials as well as the relationship between objects and space.

Her work, which ranges from abstract to opulent and vivid, often incorporates dramatic and decorative elements, exploring themes of personal fantasy, mythology, and social commentary. Using somewhat ‘garish’ ready-made materials, she reflects on the politics and psychology of identity and authorship.

The materials she uses have been collected and built upon over the years and broadly range from everyday objects such as insulation foil to old carpets, window blinds and scrap fabrics. Velvet and satin are commonly used.

Ellie graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Art (Painting). In 2019, she graduated from the National College of Art and Design after completing her masters degree in Design History and Material Culture. Ellie recently completed a Level 8 Certificate in The Principles of Art Therapy at Crawford, Munster Technological University.

Ellie also facilitates art in primary schools. For more information on art facilitation, visit this webpage.

Ellie has previously worked in the library sector in Ireland as well as in galleries and museums in both Dublin and New York City.
